Chatroulette – Pictures!

So Monday morning last week, at work went something like this…

My Boss to my colleague and myself: “Have you seen this new internet sensation called Chatroulette – it’s amazing ”

Us- Monday morning hangover and only just awake- in fake, but well hidden, eager unison:    “No, Pray tell, what is this”

Boss: “It’s great, come and have a look!”

Us: Oh my God! What is this site? Yukkkkk!!!!!! Ewwwwwww!  (both recoil from masturbating succession of men on screen, little sick in mouth, wonder how will find new job in current climate…)

So before you get me wrong. My boss is not some weird pervert, well not publicly… This oh so fabulous internet sensation is Chat Roulette. Which has, I’ve been told and seen, some high and interesting points. This was my first experience, I’m guessing/hoping the time difference in the UK and US had something to do with my unexpected and somewhat pornographic introduction to the world of Chatroulette, but from the sounds of it that may not actually be the case, this is more likely a constant thing…

So here are a selection of  the top few wacky, weird and funniest screen shots, comments and experiences from myself and others, on the infamous, Chatroulette…

What is Chatroulette really?

So the new social media sensation, Chatroulette in it’s very short existence has attracted over a million unique users in January and tens of thousands of people log on to display themselves to each other, through use of webcams.  You are connected to a site and choose to stay talking to the person who randomly pops up or you just click to get a new conversation started.

The creation of this site was not for perverse reasons, people have just abused it as such. In my short spell having a look see, which went something like: breasts;willies;  sweet little scenes of kids doing dance routines; copulation; men’s crotches; funny people in costumes; women kissing dogs and nice people just wanting a chat,  I have understood the appeal of Chatroulette, but am yet to be convinced that’s it’s not just another creepy vehicle for voyeurs.  I do like the idea of connecting lonely people across the world ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I’m not sure how genuine and lasting this visual forum will be.

I can’t say my feelings on this whole thing are positive, and judging by a number of comments in forums, I’m not sure a lot of people have found it so!

I’ve seen a lot of people in forums saying they’re too scared to go on alone. So why look at all? Still- I couldn’t help myself! Curiosity killed the cat and all that!

So after reading some forums and general information, I came across this and unintentionally played the new online game- Chatroulette Bingo! I think this pretty much sums up the whole operation….

So Chatroulette my new favourite site? Will I be going on again? Probably not. I think it smacks of teenage curiosity, like forums, when they first came out and I was a teenager, it was exciting to talk to an utter stranger until some random man text me while I hadn’t realised all my details were open and I felt like someone had just come far too far into my personal space. This is why Chatroulette disturbs me- it’s not anonymous you can see whose penis you’re being shown, as a surprise, and if that happened in real life- I’m sure they’d be arrested. The fact that sites such as this, twitter, stumbleupon, facebook etc. leave so much for so many to find out about you seems strange to me, you don’t go up to an utter stranger and tell them your likes, dislikes, fears and aspirations and show them every picture you’ve ever taken of yourself. Why do so on the internet?

Evidently as Chatroulette grows in popularity the more sanitised and less pornographic it will become, but I have a sneaky feeling this is when it’s popularity will wane… Call me a cynic, but I think the attraction lies in the seediness of the whole affair!
